Geneva High School Auditorium

“Layered Elliptical Rhythms”

Architect: FGM Architects
Project Designer: Robin Randall

Client: Geneva School District

Completion: TBD
Science of Learning:
A key component of the Geneva High School master plan is the community accessible auditorium. Located on the southwest corner of the site, the elliptical form is pivotal in bringing a new image to the facility. Musical learners inhabit this corner of the property with band, choral and orchestra rooms nearby, as well as scene shop and black box theater. The auditorium includes a four story fly loft layered behind the proscenium stage wall. Concentric elliptical seating and walls radiate rhythmically out to a royal blue layer that captures the lobby and entry.

Language of Nature:
Primarily an urban sloped site, the auditorium has a small entry plaza which terraces down the hillside with layers of landscaped steps. Master planning includes enclosed courtyards for outdoor classrooms and performance. The southern parking lot doubles as the marching band rehearsal area complete with football field striping patterns. This project is designed to LEED silver standards.

Art of Innovation:
New mechanical and electrical systems, as part of the master plan, improve energy use and student comfort. Sound systems and theatrical lighting in the auditorium provide educational opportunities designed to be accessible to all learners. Scene shop and deliveries are located adjacent to the stage for easy access. The two story lobby is generously designed to accommodate pre-theater receptions and intermissions.
